PRI is seeking an experienced, highly-skilled Senior Designer for one of its key clients MUTTS. The position is a full time six month contract position with a potential to hire full time after six months at which time company benefits will be available (health insurance, 401k, paid holidays and PTO).

MUTTS is a brand with followers so loyal they tattoo us on their skin — literally! Drawn by award-winning cartoonist Patrick McDonnell, the MUTTS comic strip appears in over 700 newspapers in 20 countries. MUTTS has been described by Peanuts creator Charles Schulz as “One of the best comic strips of all time.”

We’re looking for an energetic, fun-loving Senior Designer to join our team in overhauling the MUTTS.com website and creating various branded product collections from start to finish for our accompanying ecommerce site.

The ideal candidate will be a Jane- or Jack-of-all-trades type of designer with high skill levels in both product design and UI/UX website design. The Senior Designer should be able to combine user experience principles and visual design to build intuitive and attractive websites, mobile applications, and other digital experiences. This person will also execute the seasonal design development process from concept to delivery by creating original, trend-appropriate design concepts that are on-brand, meet audience needs, and drive sales — and ensure the timely execution of each stage in the development process.

UI/UX Responsibilities

  • Evaluate/audit user experience flows and provide actionable suggestions for optimization.

  • Design web-based interfaces for our brand website — which includes an ecommerce site — and mobile sites, taking into consideration all aspects of the user experience.

  • A deep understanding of how typography and images in design can be used to communicate clearly and create a specific user experience.

  • Possess a thorough understanding of how to best optimize and design interface elements (like buttons and dropdown lists) or navigation components (like search fields and tags) or informational items (like user response messages and progress bars).

  • Remain well-versed in best practices for usability and accessibility. Both areas require an eye for design and close attention to detail.

Product Design Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Innovation

    • Develop and maintain an understanding of our target customer and take into consideration competitors’ products and emerging trends; pull and review fabrics, design concepts, mood boards for meetings, mock-ups, color-ups.

    • Execute development of new products and design collections based on a theme that can be carried through an entire range of products.

  • Operations & Results

    • Design according to style guide and sales needs; ensure timely execution of product development calendar.

    • Create Illustrator/Photoshop sketches; review specification sheets and line sheets; ensure maintenance of designs in task management system and/or shared drives.

    • Select and review raw materials and trims; ensure maintenance of fabric/trim library.

    • Approve lab dips and ensure consistency with color standards and licensor directives, where appropriate; review prints and graphics where appropriate and advise revisions; manage fit process.

  • Customers & Relationships

    • Coordinate follow-up with internal and external vendors and partners, including technical design, production, and vendors; be accountable for interoffice communication regarding product design progress.

    • Build collaborative relationships with vendors and internal customers.

Requirements:

  • Experience in designing and iterating on websites

  • Quantitative and user behavior analysis skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign

  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Bootstrap or equivalent framework

  • Passion for creating experiences in online environments

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, highly detail-oriented

  • Creativity, technical capability, and sensibility for merchandising; ability to sketch

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Design (or portfolio demonstrating equivalent experience)

  • 4+ years experience in UI/UX design with familiarity of fashion/product design (or vice versa)

Other Desired Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, silhouettes, color ways, sewing techniques, fabrication and trim

  • Familiarity of print design and manufacturing
